When I press Ctrl Alt Del i get like 50 processes. I have no idea how you guys manage like 16 or watever.
Well it is good to hear that you got a DVD RW. I have one but somehow its sound has some problem. It comes in bits. Maybe you can help me with that.

Good to hear! Man, I am spoilt here with my PC! I recently just got a macbook, at a discount through my University.. totally loving it! And yes, GAIM ftw - I use it.

Aman, ym doesnt allow external smileys. So the smileys you are reffering to are probably the hidden ym smilies.

Hey i use a plugin pack on GAIM that had smilies YIM dodnt have in the 6 version !!

Press CTRL ALT DELand check the process tab. We are talking about reducing those.

I have only 13 processes in my taskmanager when the OS is idle.
Including the only exactly 9 processes enabled and running.

COM event system
DHCP client
Event Log
Network Connections
Plug and Play
Remote Procedure Call
Windows Audio
Windows Management Instrumentation
Workstation

Those are the bare minimum vital services.
Nothing else installed or enabled.

Thanks man, will reduce the process to that list. As it is I have 16 processes running when the system is on idle. So thats pretty close to yours :D

A complete overhaul of my PC would cost me atleast 15 K and thats leaving out buying a new Keyboard & monitor.

It was tweaked more than most ppl would even think on how low XP could go.

I have only 13 processes in my taskmanager when the OS is idle.
Including the only exactly 9 processes enabled and running.

Plug and Play
Remote Procedure Call
Windows Audio
Windows Management Instrumentation
Workstation

The upgrade I got for my brother (the PC back at home) cost me 6k.
And that included a 2.13Ghz Celeron (the newer chip with 256KB cache!).
A 512MB RAM.
A new power supply.
A second hand 865 motherboard.

But you had a spare mobo. A complete overhaul of my PC would cost me atleast 15 K and thats leaving out buying a new Keyboard & monitor.

What modern OS were you running on your 64MB RAM anyway ?!
My highly tweaked and stripped down XP idles at 67-70 MB.

It was tweaked more than most ppl would even think on how low XP could go.

Yo congratulations man!!
Im thinking of buying ram too and upgrading to like 1GB. Thats should be pretty good. But need the money. lol. So if anyone donates the mac.. donate a 512MB Ram too. :D
